Langanes headland and Djúpadal Valley contain a number of unusual lakes, near the East Rangá River, that are particularly rich in birdlife. These lakes are connected to Lambhagavatn Lake that lies west of the river and together they make up one of the most important areas in Rangárvalla District for flourishing bird life, especially ducks. Lambhagavatn Lake and Langanes are on the list of protected sites along with Oddaflód, a swamp that is also listed as an important internationally recognised bird sanctuary.

Vallarnes was formed in a manner similar to Langanes and Djúpidalur meanders out from East Rangá river. There is a swamp with rich bird life.
