Katla Geopark is Iceland's first geopark and it opens up a natural wonderland to the visitor. A top priority of the park is to protect the natural environment, promote local sustainable development, introduce local culture and place a strong emphasis on nature tourism.

Katla Geopark is certainly one of the most dynamic, diverse and geologically exciting regions of the world. Here, one can find volcanoes, newly formed lava, glaciers and glacial phenomena, rivers, outwash plains, black beaches and much much more.

All this makes Katla UNESCO Global Geopark an excellent classroom.
