One of Katla Geopark’s Geoschools, the elementary school of the Municipality of Mýrdalshreppur, has just received a grant from the fund Sprotasjóður. The grant sum is 1,2 million Isk and is for the project “Student’s research of the coastal changes at Vik beach” which is a joint project between the school, Katla Geopark and Katla Center.
Katla Geopark has unveiled its new easily movable educational exhibition which is being displayed at Katla centre in Vik. The exhibition consists of three so-called „hop-up“ stands. On them there is information in Icelandic and English about various things within the Geopark, for example the glaciers, birds, history and various geosites.
Katla Geopark and Víkurskóli school, in association with Katla centre, started a joint research project for students yesterday, 12th of January 2021.
Today is the international mountain day and therefor we in Katla Geopark wanted to share with you some information about mountains and especially about one of our favorite mountains, Mt. Lómagnúpur in Skaftárhreppur municipality.
