Country Hotel Anna becomes a certified Geopark Partner!
Today we formalised our partnership with Hotel Anna through a written partnership agreement!
Hotel Anna is a small, beautiful, family-run hotel in the traditional style of the farm that Anna from Moldnúpur grew up in, located in the Vestur-Eyja Mountains a few km north of the Ring Road 1 and about 30-minutes east of Hvolsvöllur.
Anna was quite a remarkable woman, she was a dairymaid born in 1901, thirsty for education and experiencing different cultures through her travels all over the world, her books about her travels were very popular in the 1950s, all published at her own expense! "I became dizzy thinking of how big the world is and how little and weak I am" - says Anna from Moldnúpur.
As described in the book, "A Dairymaid Travels the World" :The voice of Anna from Moldnúpur is unique in the history of Icelandic literature and is a valuable witness to the self-image and life experience of a common Icelandic woman of that time period, no less than to the countries she visited.
Staying with Hotel Anna is perfect mixture of those wanting to experience Katla Geopark´s culture and natural heritage! The hotel is quite unique and displays various information about Anna and her life, with her brother´s descendants now running the hotel. The restaurant is small and cozy, it offers local food from the farm and the area around (farm-to-table). It is quite popular to host small weddings and ceremonies in this country hotel as well! Situated in the peaceful countryside, there are various hiking trails all around the area including a short driving distance to many of Katla Geopark´s most famous attractions (geosites).
