Fagrifoss

Fagrifoss waterfall (i.e. the beautiful waterfall) is in the river Geirlandsá. The waterfall is very beautiful and cascades into an impressive gorge that the river has dug during the last millennia. The canyon is somewhat similar to Fjaðrárgljúfur, and the canyon walls are mostly made of palagonite tuff, with numerous large intrusions that cut through the tuff every now and then.

There is a small parking lot to the east of the waterfall and a footpath leads to a viewing platform by the waterfall from there. It is good to keep in mind that the vegetation in the area is fragile and the conditions at the waterfall and the canyon are often precarious, so it is advisable to stay on the path and on the viewing platform.

The waterfall is on the way to Lakagígar craters and therefore not accessible to everyone, as you must drive over several rivers on the way and the road can also be hard to traverse and is therefore only suitable for well-equipped 4x4s.
