Waterfall Near Kirkjubæjarklaustur
Stjórnarfoss
The waterfall Stjórnarfoss, near the village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur, is in the river Stjórn, which originates from the Geirlandshraun lava field up in the highlands north of the village.
The waterfall is at the end of a beautiful canyon and the river continues its journey through the outwash plain of Stjórnarsandur until it flows into the river of Geirlandsá and soon after into Skaftá River.
The waterfall is not the biggest one but is very beautiful, and the environment around the waterfall is also beautiful with several geosites nearby, for example Kirkjugólf and Systrastapi.
